Press Release: Paper Works Exhibition, an Investigation into Paper as an Art Medium.
A new exhibition by 5 artists opens on April 26 at Newsagency Gallery in Petersham. The common theme is paper – all of the works having been created or displayed on paper. Hence the name Paper Works, quite an apt title too considering the exhibition is being held at the Newsagency Gallery.
There are a range of different materials being used; The show will feature works created with graphite, watercolours, charcoal, ink, pen and digital prints. The exhibition features drawing heavily with all of the artists having a solid background in fine arts or design, both in traditional and digital mediums. The exhibition will include works created from digitally found images, snippets of Google image gold, rendered graphite and charcoal drawings, landscapes with large monolithic totems, portraits, flesh like masses, cute girls, nudes, figures and abstract forms.
Four of the artists – Daniel Smith, Zoe Tubbenhauer, Jo Ann Cahill and Callum Docherty are based in NSW – both Sydney and Newcastle. Between them they have studied at Newcastle Art School, Newcastle University, Enmore Design TAFE and COFA. The fifth artist is a very talented artist from Mexico City who is currently based in New York City. Her work has been sent over specifically for the show.
Please join us from 6:30pm on 26 April for the exhibition opening and to meet the artists.
The show will be open Thursday through Sunday, 10am – 5pm till 12 May.
